While I am in Honduras to serve others and bless the people
of this country, it would be a lie to say that it is not a blessing for me to
be here as well. God has been speaking so much truth into me lately through
people around me and through situations here. I’d like to share some of those
with you and hopefully His words will bless you too.
You don’t need to see
the whole path to take a step forward
Sometimes God reveals the whole plan, sometimes He doesn’t.
God told me to move to Honduras, and He worked hard to get me here. He put
residency on my heart as the next step. He has never told me how long I’ll be
here. In my head, I am hesitant to go through the expensive residency process
without a guarantee from God that I’ll be here a while. Even though He has
never spoken anything short term about my time here, I worry. I worry because I
want to see the whole plan, because I’m a planner. But God said to take a step
forward and then he’ll show me the next step. It’s called faith, so I’m
stepping forward. Fear and stress is from the devil, while faith is from the Lord. Make your decisions out of faith, not stress or fear.
Rest is a good thing
For most of my life, I’ve been busy. I’ve worked since high
school, studied my butt off in college, and always kept myself busy with sports
and other activities. And now I’m busy here too. SO busy. Sometimes I find
myself feeling guilty if I take a day off or even disappear for a couple hours
for quiet time. Maybe its because I’m just used to being busy, or because I
know other’s people’s paychecks are supporting me while I’m here, so I need to
make the most of every second. But busy doesn’t equal successful. I need to do
what God wants me to, and nothing more. Because only God’s projects for me will
bear good fruit. By saying yes to everything and getting involved everywhere,
I’m stretching myself thin and making it harder to do the tasks God originally
planned for me to do. So guys, rest is a good thing.
God’s purpose for
your life isn’t small, regardless of how you feel about it
Here at the ministry, I do a lot of things. I disciple, I
cook for hours everyday, I help organize and support the missionary groups
here, I support Herman and Anderson and their family, I grocery shop for 50+
people and run every other kind of errand, I help kids with homework, I am the
contact for new missionaries who come to serve with us, and lots of other
random things. Many times, these things feel small and I feel that I’m waiting
for God to reveal my grand purpose here. But that’s not correct. I meet with
Herman for only a couple hours per week, but my work with him is reconciling
him with his Father, his Creator. The ministry of reconciliation is not a small
ministry. Neither is pouring into boys every day who haven’t experienced even a
fraction of the love I have received. Neither is serving missionaries every
month who are on an 11 month journey around the world. Who am I to say that the
work God has given me is not good enough. Maybe I do have a different purpose
later on in my time here, but I can’t say I’m waiting for my big purpose. God didn’t
plan little things for me, just this past weekend He spoke to me through my pastor
here with the words “chosen for greatness”.
His plan for me is perfect, so I’ll do
the work put in front of me.
God’s timing is
perfect
God is in control of time. He sees the whole picture, and
knows where everything fits in best. His timing with provision, with
revelation, with relationships, with everything is perfect. Always.
God will give you the
desires of your heart
It's actually true, He will. Many times in my life, I have wanted the exact opposite of
what God wants. Whether it’s a relationship or a behavior, I’ve fought Him over
things in the past. But now, my heart fully wants to be in Honduras, serving
former street kids and future leaders. I love Herman’s family and want to see
God get a hold of him again. The cool thing is that God gave me the desire of
my heart. He set it up even before I knew my heart desired it! He brought me to
Honduras and He continues to provide for me. Gracias a Dios!
