Many of you know that I feel very called to serve Herman and to help on his walk to find Jesus in his own life. Even though he's not living on the property right now, ministry with him still continues, so right now I'm meeting with him once a week in La Kennedy to talk about faith, and life, and his future. Many of you
know he fell hard back into the culture of Los Pinos: violence, drugs, a
serious lack of ambition, and a dark spiritual environment. But it has been
such a blessing that God has given me influence in his life, and he will talk
to me about serious things, faith and problems, when he won’t talk to anyone
else. Even from the first to the second time I met him, I’ve seen such changes
just in his face and his demeanor, he smiled this last time! Just a short story of how I saw God working in him
most recently:
We sat down to meet in Dunkin
Donuts, and I asked him about his “homework” from last week, reading some
chapters in Romans. He said he doesn’t really understand it, doesn’t really
want to talk about it. I present him with another passage, Ephesians 3:14-21, I
want us to read together, my prayer for him every day. He reads it and tells
me, “Molly, you know I’m not a Christian any more, this doesn’t mean anything
to me, I don’t understand it.” He looks back down at it and reads it over and
over again for a good five minutes, all the while I’m praying hard that God
will speak to him and let him feel the words. A few minutes later, he writes
down the verse and says he wants to read it more throughout this next week.
Later when we go to Burger King for lunch, before he eats, he asks if we should
pray. I say yeah we should, do you want to or do you want me to. He says he
will, and he prays. Afterwards he tells me that’s the first time he prayed in
six months, and this is the only time he’s read the Bible in that same time
period. He just smiles, and I did too. One second he says he’s not a Christian
and he doesn’t want to have anything to do with the Bible, and then God gets a
hold of him again and he's praying and captivated by God's Word. I have so much hope for his future!
There’s a battle going on for him, but whatever the devil
tries to destroy in his life, God will only build back stronger and greater
than before! God is working in Herman!! Please pray that Herman will feel the
gospel, that all the work was done way before he was even a thought, with Jesus
on the cross. He knew every bad thing Herman would ever do, but He said it
doesn’t matter, that’s my son, and I want to give my life for him. I said these
words to Herman, and he got a big smile on his face. Pray that God repeats this
truth in his heart over and over and over again until it finally clicks!
