The Blessing of Clean Water

Clean, drinkable, parasite and contaminant free water, that water that comes out of the faucet in your kitchen. You probably don’t think twice about it when you get a drink and you almost certainly don’t ration it because you’re worried about it running out and going thirsty for days. However, in Honduras and for the majority of people in the world, clean water is a luxury.  Water in general is scarcely found in Honduras these days as we're experiencing a serious drought, ruining crop yields and driving the prices of food sky high. You don't realize how important water and clean water are until you witness so many people around you who don't have any. We were blessed this month with high quality water filters to give out to families in need. These filters make clean water accessible and will help improve health of the families, many of which include sick, elderly, or children. Here are pictures from the first families to receive them.

Carla and her family in La Kennedy -- This family lives in an environment unheard of in America. Behind a dumpster, down a ravine, in the midst of trash of every kind, sit a few makeshift shacks. In these "homes" live children, babies (who are always sick) and adults. This area is filled with drug use, violence, and usually a combination of the two. Jen, another missionary with our ministry, makes it her ministry to consistently love, disciple, tutor, and generally serve this "invisible" and forgotten group of people. She was also able to give this family a water filter to provide clean water for this whole community.

Mari and Danielito - Mari is a mom suffering extreme poverty and a severe heart condition who is still caring for a young child and a teenage daughter. Clean water will help keep them healthy and be another step to strengthen Mari's body for a necessary heart surgery we are praying for God to open doors for and provide for her to save her life.

Mabel - Mabel is mom to Steven (living at the ministry) and Carlitos. She is also fighting a life threatening disease, so this clean water will be super helpful for her and her growing son to stay healthy and parasite free.

Elin - Elin is the young mom of Alex (living with the ministry) and three younger girls. We are excited to see how clean water will help keep the girls' little bodies healthy more consistently and help them to grow to their full potential!

Marlin - You guys have heard a lot about this family already - Marlin, mom to Asmin, Anderson (both living with the ministry) and three other little girls. Her kids are all very malnourished and with the help of clean water, they can absorb all the nutrients possible from the food they do get without being robbed by parasites.

Pastor Nicolas - Pastor of a church in the heart of Los Pinos serving the spiritually hungry every day. He is a wonderful pastor with a big calling on his life, who does all he can to help us out as well with all of our work in Los Pinos. We we're blessed to be able to provide him with five filters to distribute to families in his congregation with great need.

We have a couple more Los Pinos families to give filters to, including Nancy (Nohemi's oldest daughter) and her kids, and Fanny (Luis's sister) who is expecting a baby in a couple months. We also plan to distribute in a couple other areas as well - updates will come soon!
