I can’t believe that the time has all ready come, but it’s
time to start thinking about CHRISTMAS! For the past two years, I’ve hosted an
annual Christmas party in Los Pinos to celebrate our Lord’s birth while
blessing and fellowshipping with so many wonderful families. Each year it has
grown and been changed a little bit as God guides, and this year is no
different. I’m so excited to let you in on the plans for this year and how you
can get involved!
The event this year consists of two parts: a Family Dinner
and a Kids Outreach.
The Family Dinner will look pretty similar to last year.
I’ll be hosting the event in a small church in Los Pinos and hoping to have
around 30 families attend. We will enjoy a short time of worship, a
presentation of the Gospel and the true meaning of Christmas, a dinner shared
together of traditional nacatamales, and a small gift basket of food staples
for each family. There will also be a small program for the kids in attendance
including a reading of the Christmas story and an art project centered around
the birth of our Savior. Once all of the planned parts of the event are over,
we’re guaranteed to enjoy a wonderful time of prayer, fellowship, and
celebration. Since the event is a community event, many people are involved in
the execution of the day. Women in Los Pinos have volunteered to make all 200+
nacatamales (a tedious but rewarding job!). The kids from Zion’s Gate
(originally from Los Pinos) will be serving their own families who will be
attending and helping me with the program – worship, scripture reading, etc.
Other volunteers will be responsible for the children’s program, serving the
food, etc. It’s an honor to not just do this event for the community, but have
the community come together to create a day of family, joy, and rejoicing the
birth of our Lord.
The second event is the Kids Outreach and is much bigger
than last year. While last year we were able to bless each child who attended
the Family Dinner with a small Christmas gift bag, this year I’m planning to
distribute many more gift bags in Sector F, reaching as many children as
possible in that area (I've planned for at least 350!). Each gift bag includes a children’s book of the
Christmas story in Spanish, practical items such as pencils, erasers and
crayons, and a couple of small toys. Not only will the gift be a blessing to the
kids who normally don’t receive gifts at Christmas, but it is also a wonderful
way to send God’s truth into virtually every home in this community. The kids
from Zion’s Gate will help me with this event; it takes a lot of hands to hand
out so many bags!!
I’m so excited for Christmas in Los Pinos this year, and I
would love for you to partner with me to pull it all off. Obviously all of
these plans come with financial costs, so I’m looking for 40 people at $40/each
to support these celebrations!
All donations are tax deductible through World Outreach
Ministries. Let me know if you’re
interested in partnering, and lets find these 40 partners soon!! Donation
information can be found on the right side of this blog, or contact me with any
questions.
Help me bring a joyful, Gospel centered Christmas celebration to God’s children in Los Pinos!
